For example, the islands of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius use the US dollar while Curacao and Sint Maarten use the Caribbean guilder instead.

About the Netherlands Antilles
|
|
Located in the Caribbean, the Netherlands Antilles is informally known as the Dutch Antilles.
The islands of this country are each part of the Lesser Antilles and within this group the country has been spread over two small island groups with the northern part being the Leeward Islands and the western being the Leeward Antilles.
Typically, the country has a tropical climate benefiting from warm weather throughout the year. However, the Leeward Islands are prone to hurricanes during the summer months as they are a great deal warmer and drier.
The mixed culture of Netherlands Antilles attracts many tourists each and every year but the country is perhaps best known for its traditional Carnival that takes place each year and where locals will burn a straw version of King Momo to cleanse the islands of sins and bad luck.
Sports are incredibly popular in Netherlands Antilles with Netherlands Lesser Antilles competing in the Winter Olympics of 1988 and finishing 29th, ahead of Jamaica.
Baseball is the most popular sport in the country with a number of players making it into major leagues. These include: Xander Bogaerts, Hensley Meulens, Andruw Jones and Shairon Martis.
Three athletes from this country also competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics alongside one other from South Sudan.
Papiamentu is the official language of the country while Dutch is also spoken a little in everyday life. Traditional food in Netherlands Antilles differs between each island however each has variations of the Caribbean Creole cuisine with fast food establishments only becoming popular since the rise in tourism.
