About Liechtenstein
|
|
The German speaking country is land locked between Germany, Austria and Switzerland and has a land mass of just 160sq kilometres and home to just 35,000 inhabitants. The country boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world, and as such is one of the richest. Lying completely in the Alps the country is a hotspot for winter sports fanatics.
During the Second World War, Liechtenstein remained neutral; giving asylum to some 500 Russian soldiers after the war had ended.
After the war Liechtenstein were in dire financial straits, and had to resort to selling one of the family heirlooms, Ginevra de Benci, by Leonardo di Vinci, which was sold to the national gallery of art in the US for $5millions, which in that day, was a record for the sale of art (in today’s market this would equate to some $35million).
The Prince of Liechtenstein is the world’s 6th richest monarch, with a fortune of some $5billion (USD). The country offers one of the highest standards of living in the modern world.
Despite the small land area it occupies, Lichtenstein has the largest number of registered companies in the world.
