About Bolivia
|
|
The country is a Spanish colony, though prior to this was known to have been inhabited by the Inca tribe. During the Spanish occupation, Bolivia was more commonly referred to as Upper Peru. An initial call for independence in 1809 has since seen varying levels of unrest, the most notable being 16 years of war before a republic was established in 1825.
Their main sources of income are mining, fishing, forestry and agriculture. Bolivia is especially rich in minerals, with tin mining being the most affluent of its activities.
The country’s population exceeds 10milion and encompasses multi ethnic inhabitants, Amerindians, Europeans, Asians and Africans, meaning the languages spoken are as equally diverse. Such diversity has provided Bolivia with a cultural array of cuisines, literature and music.
The country of Bolivia is named after one of its forefathers, Simon Bolivar, who was a leader in the Spanish American wars of independence, and replaced the afore mentioned Upper Peru.
The country covers an area of 1,098,581 square kilometers.
