About Angola
Angola is based in Southern Africa and is the seventh largest country in within the continent. Angola gained its independence from the Portuguese colony in 1975 and the official language within the country is Portuguese, although parts of the population speak Bantu and other African languages.
Since the 1990’s, the economy has developed quickly which has largely been due to the increase of oil production, as the country has a vast mineral and petroleum reserves. Despite the considerable growth of Angola’s economy, the standard of living remains low for the majority of citizens, with life expectancy and infant mortality rates being one of the worst in the world.
The landscape of Angola has much to offer, as one of Africa’s most breath taking wonders is The Ruacana Falls which is situated in Angola. The highest point in Angola is Serra Mountain which reaches a staggering 2610 meters tall. The country is also the home for the giant sable antelope, which is unique to Angola as this mammal cannot be located anywhere else in the world and until recent times this animal was thought to be extinct.
