It’s almost that time of year again when London hosts one of its biggest events – the London Marathon.
Around 36,000 people don their running shoes to take part, while thousands more line the streets to cheer them on.

Racers will do battle around the capital’s streets on 24 April, but for those looking to cheer on friends and family, where is best to see the runners in action?

Some areas get particularly busy, especially around the Cutty Sark and Tower Bridge, while anywhere the finish is probably best avoided – unless you love being stuck in queues and missing a lot of the action.
Near the start line in Greenwich is also a popular spot, but heading a little further along the route can provide much better opportunities to see the runners.

The areas around Docklands and Canary Wharf also provide some fantastic spots – the latter has some roads where the runners double back on themselves, offering the chance to see your friends and family twice if you’re eagle-eyed.
If you fancy views of the landmarks as well as the runners, then somewhere along the Embankment is where you need to be. Catch a glimpse of the London Eye, or get an even better view of the action from the top!
If you can get near to the Mall (if you get there very early) then you can watch the runners as they end their efforts and finally cross the finish line. This area gets very, very busy though and public transport is often rammed. If you’re really desperate to see the racing action though, this is the place to be!

If you are heading to London, all that’s left to say is enjoy the race!
