This year marks 40 years since the post codes we know today were introduced across the nation and they’re still going strong today.
From enabling postmen and women up and down the country to find us, to pinpointing landmarks and sporting venues, everywhere has one.

A Royal residence with a twist, and one darkened by fire during ‘annus horribilis’
Windsor Castle on the banks of the River Thames serves as a second home to the Queen for some of the year and can trace its roots back to Norman times. Decimated by fire in 1992, the castle has been wonderfully restored and serves as a hosting point for state visits and a popular tourist attraction.

Pop into the Queen Vic and drown your sorrows, Dirty Den’s back and it’ll surely only be a matter of time before he gets his comeuppance...
EastEnders first aired in 1985, and now nearly 30 years later, it’s still going strong. Characters have come and gone, but the show has not forgotten its roots in a market place in E20.

Wembley Stadium – England’s national stadium – was rebuilt between 2003 and 2007 with its now famous arch dominating the London skyline. Its predecessor occupied the site from 1923 and saw England’s famous victory in the 1966 World Cup.

Fit for a bard, this location was home to England’s finest playwright. Wherefore art thou been to not have recognised this place?
Born in 1964 at a house in Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare’s works changed the English language forever and remain popular to this day.

You have to be of Prime importance to live here, well since 1735 anyway…
Many of the biggest decisions that affect the world have taken place at 10 Down Street in the past 275 years and the area can even trace its political roots back to Roman and Saxon times.
