Waterproofing and packaging your parcel

With winter nearly upon us, it’s the perfect time to start waterproofing your parcels and thinking about taking extra care with your packaging.

1. Individually wrap each item within your parcel: It may be obvious but tissue paper or bubble wrap will work well for this.

2. Fill any extra space: Use crumpled newspaper or polystyrene to fill any gaps in your parcel to avoid any items moving around and potentially breaking during transit.

3. Seal your parcel: Use strong tape along any seams or openings of your parcel to fully seal it shut. We always suggest using strong parcel tape up to 40-50mm wide.

4. Protect the contents: Make sure there are no holes or tears in the outside of the parcel packagaing. Shrink wrap is great if you're sending larger items that won't fit in a box and should keep your item(s) waterproof during transit.

5. Make sure your parcel is strong enough: Once all items are sealed within your parcel check to see if it can support the weight of all items. If not you may need to use a stronger box or container.

6. Re-using an old box to ship your parcel? Make sure you remove all old labels and tape from the box - you won’t want your parcel being delivered back to you because of an old label.

7. Mark the box if the contents are fragile: Draw arrows on the outside of your parcel with ‘This way up’ and ‘Fragile’ if your parcel needs to stay upright during transit. It all helps to make sure nothing gets broken during transit.

8. Seal your delivery label: Once printed off, place your label inside a waterproof plastic wallet and seal it to your parcel or completely seal the delivery label with clear sellotape to make sure it remains water resist against the elements.

We always take the utmost care when handling your parcels and following these simple tips helps us, help you ensure your parcel arrives as you want it.
