Christmas lights can bring to life even the dullest of homes, creating spectacular winter wonderlands that encapsulate all that the festive season is about – bringing good will and cheer to all.

Some people go for quantity while others are happy to settle for quality, and however you choose to decorate your home there really is no right or wrong way of going about it.

Depending on the time you have available, and your budget, it’s possible to make some truly remarkable displays that mean homes become the talk of the town.

Here we’ve picked some of the best and ask if you believe you can do better?

This property isn’t on fire; it’s just glowing due to sheer number of lights that are draped across it.

Part of the magic of Christmas lights is seeing everything lit up when night time falls. This footage, shot with a drone in Idaho in the US, shows what can be done when entire communities decide they want to go crazy in the spirit of Christmas...

Christmas is always a time for theme parks and attractions to light themselves up to – just take inspiration from Disneyland if you’re ever in need of some lighting ideas...

Finally, we have the Christmas lights equivalent of Santa’s Grotto – every bit of space is filled and there’s something to impress wherever you look. Be warned though, these kinds of displays can be expensive!
