The new iPhone 6s/7 is coming, but what can we expect?

4th September 2015

It’s almost that time of year again when the masterminds over at Apple’s Cupertino HQ reveal their latest iPhone creation.

Rumours are everywhere surrounding what may be included in the design, so we’ve taken a look about and picked out a few of the main things that can *probably* be expected…

* By probably, we mean we’re taking a calculated guess!

The iPhone 6S or iPhone 7 (the name is yet to be confirmed but it’s expected to be one of those two) could be unveiled in California on 9 September 2015. It follows a trend of iPhone releases – Apple seems to love an autumn release as every iPhone going back to the 4S in 2011 has come out then!

It’s set to be slightly larger and heavier than the old version – perhaps surprising given the trend for many electronics to be smaller and lighter. The device looks set to be a few grams heavier at the very least. However the screens are set to remain the same size at 4.7 and 5.5 inches, as are the storage sizes of 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.

The battery life could also be more than 5% less than in the past – with the battery on the standard sized device set to be cut from 1810 milliampere hours to 1715. A similar level of reduction is likely on the larger screened model (likely the iPhone 6S Plus or 7 Plus). Given the battery life of the current designs, it was hoped that the new models would boast improvements although this looks unlikely.

However, iOS 9 will be more energy efficient than iOS 8 according to Apple, while a new Low Power mode and new updates are set to provide a boost to battery life. Software improvements may actually mean that the smaller battery might not have too much of an impact.

There’s also rumours of an iPhone 6c, which could replace the iPhone 5s as the smaller 4 inch version of the handset.

Potential key new features to get excited about

The Apple Watch screen had an interesting feature called Force Touch display and it looks as though the new iPhone could have it too! It would potentially create more ways of interacting with the display, as users can push on the screen harder to bring up new menus.

Gold, silver, and space grey will be the main colours, but a rose gold (yes you read that correctly) is also set to be available!

The case will be made of a new material (meaning no more bendy iPhones) and the Touch ID is expected to see radical improvements to support Apple Pay.

Beyond that, the iPhone 6S could have a 12 megapixel camera on the rear, as well as a microphone to boost audio quality.

As always, Apple has not commented on its products ahead of launch so everything at the moment is purely speculation. However, as the day of reckoning gets closer, there’s certainly plenty of reason for excitement…

One rumour even suggests it could hit UK shelves from 18 September….eeeek! Parcel Pete can’t wait!
